I was so excited when The Aquarium asked me to create designs for their Silver Anniversary that was themed ” Cirque De La Mer – Argentum!” The color story was black, silver and purple and the theme to be Futuristic and Circus-like. For anyone who knows me as an artist knows that this is my kind a event! Of course, this was their annual gala to celebrate their anniversary as well as to raise money for the aquarium…so budget was a big part of the creations. In order to design centerpieces that would be true to the theme/color story and to the level of design that both myself and the aquarium are accustomed to, I had to get very creative for all 40 tables!!!! One of things that helped with costs were hand making all of the silver spheres….I can’t give all my secrets away but I can tell you that balloons and silver spray paint were involved in the making of over 100 of those suckers! I wish I could say that no balloons were harmed in the making, but sadly, they were.
Okay, Okay, enough of the cheesiness…take a look at the most incredible night for the Norwalk Maritime Aquarium…..Not only did Governor Malloy make a presence but you may see that a mermaid and tree-lady showed up as well…Have fun viewing my creations!

The Governor…whether you like him or not….it’s pretty cool he was at one of my events!
Growing up in Norwalk, I was always at the Aquarium, never did I think that one day my creations would be on display for people to gauk at! I was honored to create another themed event and this time I dubbed it, ”Under The Sea”. I wanted Annabelle’s guests to feel like they were literally under the sea…hence the jellyfish and seaweed hanging over the room from the balcony that Annabelle would make her grand entrance. I created seahorses, living reef’s and 4 foot tall coral trees. I used fish netting, resin clam shells and coral. I hand picked flowers and elements that would mimic what you would see if you were on the ocean floor…pin cushion protea to simulate sea urchins…eucalyptus and horsetail to act like sea grass growing towards the sun..I even got crafty with paper lanterns and crepe paper and made some jelly fish! Not only did I have fun with all the details, but Annabelle, her family and friends had fun looking at all the surprises she had only dreamed about for her special day!
Annabelle’s Mother left me the best review on Event Wire:
Candi was fabulous! Very easy to work with. She immediately understood what we wanted – an under the sea whimsical event -
and went with it. Highly, highly recommend her – very creative and fun!
Misty of Misty Enright Photography is the preferred photographer for the Aquarium and you’ll soon see why…she does an excellent job!
10 years ago when I first walked into the New Haven Lawn Club I’ve always wanted to design creations that you would have seen in the 1930′s when this building was built. Something that would compliment the art deco design, the crystal chandeliers, the mirrored mantle…..creations that would transform you back to the 30′s! Well, after a long wait, I finally met my kindred spirit, “Lady T ” as we shall call her, and she was able to make my dream come true…and she didn’t even know it!
When we first met she was explaining to me…a florist…that she did NOT want any flowers of any kind…nothing that even resembled a flower. She was amazed that I didn’t run away and that I stood there in anticipation in hopes that she was my 1930′s gal and that I wasn’t dreaming. Needless to say, I was thrilled with all of her ideas and couldn’t wait to enhance them with my visions. This was truly a marriage made in heaven….just so you know I am talking about Lady T and myself! LOL
I had sympathized with her because she had spoken to other florists and they didn’t “get” it…even her own groom was having trouble envisioning…but when the big day arrived, they ALL got it!!! Here are a few words from Lady T after her wedding:
OMG–I swear–our minds are somehow connected and you knew I was just thinking, “I really have to contact Candi to tell her how ABSOLUTELY AMAZING she is and what an ABSOLUTELY AMAZING, INCREDIBLE, INSANE job she did with my wedding!!!!!!!!!” Holy crap, Candi–it was GORGEOUS!!!!! I cried when I saw the ballroom for the first time–my husband thought I was a nut-job but being that he had NO idea what decor you and I were planning, he could NOT believe how incredible the Lawn Club looked. He said he had never seen it look so amazing and he was SOOO impressed and pleased with our “Old Hollywood” ideas. We both couldn’t have been happier and seriously–even a month later–I still get people (people who weren’t even at the freakin wedding!) coming up to me, complimenting on how creative, ingenious and amazing everything was. For most people–it was the first wedding they had ever been to with “no flowers” and THEY LOVED IT! I totally miss seeing how wonderful the Lawn Club was that night and NONE of this would’ve been possible without you, Candi.
And……this is the review she left on Wedding Wire:
I honestly cannot even begin to explain the AMAZING experience I had with Candi’s Floral Creations. The minute I met Candi, I knew we would have this incredible connection and I felt immediately comfortable with how insanely beautiful she was going to make my wedding look and feel. Candi is so unbelievably talented and seriously, no idea (even as crazy as it may seem), is “too outside the box” for Candi! She knew EXACTLY what I was looking for and her ideas were exceptional. If you are looking for someone who is an extremely dedicated worker, who will do just about anything to make your wedding “your dream day,” then Candi is the girl for you. She worked sooooo hard to achieve “my vision” and no matter how crazy I sounded, she would reassure me that we were always on the same page and she knew exactly what I was looking for. I will always remember my wedding day—the moment when I saw my gorgeous bouquet for the first time and my unique bridesmaids’ clutches–I got so excited!!! When my husband and I walked into the ballroom to see “Candi’s Creation….” I immediately started to cry because it was even more beautiful than I could ever even imagine. My husband thought that I was nuts but he too was just floored by what she did and was in awe at what he saw. My vision came true and it was all because of Candi. I honestly do not know how she does it–she is truly an artist and one of the most talented people I have ever met. The decor and everything else Candi was responsible for was seriously my favorite thing about my wedding. Our guests were insanely impressed and to this day (even 2 months later) STILL talk about how incredible the decor was. I am very blessed to have met her when I did and for making the decision to hire her. It was the best thing I did for my wedding.
Enough of the mushiness…let’s get down to business and see the AMAZING images taken by the talented Misty of Misty Enright Photography! I have worked with her numerous times and she is the best out there!!!
The Place Card Table
A thousand Thank You’s for entrusting me to realize your vision.
I had an amazing time planning with you and will totally miss the 3 page emails you sent me!
Where do I begin with Michelle and Adam??? Not only were they the sweetest couple EVER, but they had such trust in me to create their vision that Michelle burst into tears at the site of her bouquet. She then made me cry as I revealed the room to them! I think it was because we BOTH worked so hard on all the details and to finally see it come to fruition was a bit overwhelming for her. You could literally see the weight lift from her shoulders as she looked at everything saying…”you read my mind”…”it’s so much more than I expected” Another beautiful moment I got to share with one of my brides…THIS is what it’s all about for me!
Michelle and Adam wanted their wedding to be elegant, but deep down they desired a natural, earthy, and rustic flair so that it would feel inviting for their guests. Michelle thought this may be a challenge since her venue, The Hartford Golf Club, is so very elegant. Therefore, I rushed to meet with her at the venue and we got down to business. The banquet director, James (who was awesome to work with, very accommodating!) was having a hard time envisioning and I think even understanding all of our ideas, but as I was assuring him, Michelle saw it coming together and felt at ease that her vision could be realized.
We were able to not only mesh these two styles together, but we did it without missing one detail that the couple loved…white mini pumpkins, branches, moss covered spheres, wooden boxes, and so on. I’m laughing because she also wanted hanging lanterns. Where, you ask? OVER the tables! Well, the ceiling did not allow for this, so I built an arbor and Michelle got to have her lanterns hanging over the guest tables! This was the favorite part for her, Adam and I and as it turns out, for every wedding guest and staff member at the club, too! Michelle had a few other favorites as she was a crafty one, and made the pumpkin soap place cards as well as the rustic table numbers. I love it when a bride get’s involved and our creations together is a marriage of it’s own.
I was overjoyed when I found out who the photographers were…Justin and Mary Marantz…and they certainly kicked everything up a few notches when they released the pictures. OH. MY. PHOTOS.!!! The vision that they have behind the camera is astonishing to me. The fact that they can capture floral beauty as well as the emotional beauty of Michelle and Adam’s day is breathtaking…as you will now see since words can not explain……
Thank you, Michelle and Adam, for having me be a part of your wedding and memories for years to come!
I’ll miss the long emails back and forth about the details and the fact that Adam didn’t want any of ”those ‘dead’ looking things” included in the decor! Makes me smile just thinking about it!
I am so happy that Heather and Steven’s wedding at New Haven Lawn Club was featured so that more people can see it…..It was the quintessential Sweet Rustic Spring wedding! It had all the makings…yellow, green and white, mason jars, burlap, twine, garden-style bouquets, antique wooden crates(that I have had for years!), tree stumps cake stands,(thanks to Hurricane Irene we had plenty of trees available to make these little buggers!) etc etc
Heather and Stephen were so involved with the planning, I loved it! The more detailed they got…the more creative I got! I think there must have been 10 VERY long emails going back and forth one night……we were SO on the same page…it was RIDIC! So much so, that after the wedding Heather’s sister emailed me to let me know how much I nailed their personality and she couldn’t believe how perfect everything was! That was it!!!! The reason I do this!!!
You can see the full feature and read all about this special couple and their wedding right here on Bliss Celebrations, but let me give you a sneak peek……
Did I mention this is a Purple Wedding?!?! I love designing purple weddings as there are SO many different and unique flowers in so many shades, shapes, and sizes!
It was the first time working with Candace and not only was she great to work with, her images are amazing!
It was also the first time working with Jay and Marisa from Social Decor! (check out their facebook page for their most recent creations and happenings)They decorated the entire perimeter of the outdoor patio with fabric and instantly transformed the space into such a soft, romantic and private ceremony space…and they were awesome to decorate with as they bring their own music to rock out to!!! But, you’ll have to hire them to find out the type of questionable music they listen to…HAHA…just joking…everyone has a little Nirvana in us!
One of my favorite themes to design…Rustic Elegance during my favorite time of year…Fall! There are so many natural elements to choose from and I love bringing “the outdoors in” by using leaves, pumpkins, birch, branches, etc etc And it all paired so nicely with the elegance of New Haven Lawn Club!!!
To top it off Diana( and Justin!) were so fun to plan with….she trusted me to take her vision and run with it and I did! Even scouring the entire state for mini white pumpkins well after their season…and found them! Also got to use my awesome dremel and wood burner kits for some great detail and personalization!
I was crying when I received their thank you card……..Love them!
This wedding was so fab that it got featured in a prestigious wedding blog, Rustic Chic Weddings!!! Click the link to see the feature. We were all very excited to find this out as this wedding was made for that site!!!
It couldn’t have happened without the gal behind the lens….Sarah from Afterglow Photos….she knows how to work that camera!!!
Here are some of my favorite images of the day……
I have been waiting so long to blog about this wedding!!! First off, Stephanie and Ryan were one of the best couples I have ever had the pleasure of working with. Even though they came to me with thoughts of what they wanted the feel of their wedding to be , they let me run with my ideas and creativity….which is when I do my BEST work! Not only were they so very sweet, fun and flexible, they were so easy going and I think it’s because they did their homework. They gave themselves more than a year to plan which gives time to really research vendors, see their work being featured, read their reviews…so once they figured out who would be the best fit for them, they were so trusting and let us do our thang!!! But then again….maybe they chose me because they secretly knew that seashore themed weddings are my specialty since I got married on a beach in Cape Cod and the ocean is my everything…just saying…..
So to back up a little bit…when I first started to talk with Stephanie she sent me photos so I could get an idea of what appealed to her…Well, we had a good laugh because EVERY picture had bright blue hydrangeas…hence the title of this blog “Hydrangeas at Harkness State Park”. So….needless to say, I gathered that this chic must like herself some Bright Blue Hydrangea!!!! As you will soon see…….
I have to give MAJOR shout outs to Eric Foley Photography who is as easy going as Stephanie and Ryan. Oh, and his photos are just to die for!!! He was just a perfect fit for this wedding and this couple. DJ Kenny Q was the best I have seen and was very impressed for working with him for the first time. I truly hope that our paths cross again! As always, Cloud Nine Catering are so much fun to work with! A side note…PLEASE always tell your florist if you’re planning on having family style serving…STEPHANIE!!!! That was such a lovely surprise to find out as I was filling up the middle of the tables with all of my creations!! Again, Cloud Nine and my team had a great laugh and made some on site changes and it all worked out. A true testament to hiring professionals that have worked together before and have years of experience so when situations arise, which they always do, they know how to deal with it without missing a beat.
So enough about how I LOVE Eolia Mansion at Harkness Memorial State Park and how I LOVED every vendor of this wedding and will miss working with Stephanie and Ryan…let’s see the goods……..
Kudos to Stephanie and Ryan for making their table numbers personalized and so much fun for their guests!!!
Johanna and Kamran wanted their day to truly represent them, their life together, their traditions, their style and their loves. There was so much thought put into every detail, everything had purpose, so I welcomed the challenge of making everything look cohesive.
Having their wedding at Saltwater Farms Vineyard, a beautifully renovated airport hanger, we included bi-planes into the favors and used them as table numbers. Keeping with the retro- vintage theme, which was certainly the couple’s vibe, old hankies adorned the bouquets and centerpieces, eclectic jadeite containers were the focal point of the guest tables, and an old typewriter was used as the guest book. Wanting the flowers to be very bright and have an effortless feeling, we used hand picked garden flowers with accents of natural elements such as succulents and willow! The bright retro style also came into play with their cake, which was the perfect replica of them and their dog, Arthur! Oh yeah…the Ring Bearer, A.K.A, Arthur had his own limo that dropped him up and picked him up…it was the cutest thing I ever saw! Of course, I decorated his collar so he could look as dapper as his parents!
It was wonderful to see them being faithful to Kamran’s Persian traditions during the ceremony. The Sofreh table various housed organic elements that signified certain things. For instance, there was a bowl of eggs to help with fertility. My favorite was the honey that they sensually fed to each other to signify that there marriage and love may always be sweet.
Johanna and Kamran’s photographer is Kelly Prizel Photography, but I also asked my friend and professional photographer Kiva from Annandale Photography take detail shots for me since I did not want to miss a thing! They both did an amazing job! See for yourself……
I was recently looking through my photos and saw these bouquets…as you’ll see, it was very hard not to see them…they are SO bright and summery!
So I thought I would blog about them in hopes that summer would finally get here!
Lauren and Matt were the sweetest couple to work with and I loved that they were a bit daring! Since they were having a nautical/seashore wedding in Mystic, we started with a more traditional seashore theme…a little safe… using blues, whites, greens, etc Don’t get me wrong, that’s beautiful for a waterside wedding, but when your Bridesmaids dresses are blue and you’re wedding is in the summer…there are SO many color stories you could choose. Lauren, hesitantly, showed me a photo of a VERY bright and colorful bouquet……I fell in love….not only with the color story, but with her as well! I really love it when a bride can be a bit daring and has the guts to really show their personality on the biggest day of their life!
Needless to say, we went with COLOR and the results were fabulous! The couple decided to take a lot of the design on themselves by having lanterns as centerpieces, hanging mason jars with candles enclosed…everything came together perfectly for a Latitude 41 wedding in Mystic! I am very impressed with her DIY skills…have to show them off!
It was also wonderful to work with Coastal Gourmet Catering, Meg of Creative Image Collections (her photos are stunning) and of course their wedding planner Christine of Piece of Cake Event Planning(we love to work together and you’ll see more of our collaborations soon).
Let the prettiness begin………
