I LOVE this time of year! Not just because it’s Christmastime but because of the wonderful winter weddings! And…have you ever seen the New Haven Lawn Club decorated for Christmas? It is done so superbly! Yes I said superbly! It’s so classic and sparkly that you don’t need many decorations to fill up the space. I mean, you certainly need to let your guests know that there’s a wedding happening, YOUR wedding. But with decorated Christmas trees from floor to ceiling, you’re not needing to have tall, huge over flowing centerpieces. Simple and classic is best. And that’s just what Ashley and Chris did! Of course they added their own twists so that their personality shown through…like, an all red rose bouquet! or a 8 foot tall Christmas tree with ornaments that doubled as the escort cards!
I can’t wait for you to see what I’m talking about…..and you will…soon, but first I have to reflect…as this Ashley and Chris’s first year wedding anniversary will be in just a few days on the 19th! And boy did so much happen since then…
They have boy and girl twins! yes, twins! And the awesome photographer, Alicia Ann, snapped these awesome pics below, had her own little bundle of Joy, a baby boy! Dreams coming true before my eyes!
It’s so wonderful to see my clients and vendor friends grow their families! I wish them and you all the best this holiday season and hoping all of your dreams come true, too!
Now take a look at a Classic Winter Wonderland Wedding….and her dress! She found it at The White Dress by the Shore and they worked together to add the lace in such an elegant way.
What do you do when the sweetest bride ever! tells you she bought her fiance an Orange, Raspberry, Deep Purple and Bright Green bow tie and wants her wedding to be that color story….and using summer-like flowers for her ‘Fall” wedding…? Well, if you’re me, you say ‘Hell yeah, that’s awesome, let’s do it!’ So…we did it and turned out to be one of the best color combinations and floral varieties I’ve designed in a long time. What most people don’t know is that towards the end of wedding season and autumn many flowers become unavailable and the inventory of unique, colorful flowers can be very limited. This is where hiring an experienced designer can benefit you due to the years of connections they have with suppliers as well as knowledge of what can be in season in other countries, etc I’ll spare you the behind the scenes details and just show you what I’m talking about……
Loved how these colors really brightened up the ballrooms at The New Haven Lawn Club
A HUGE thanks to Kathy at Simply K Studios for not only taking these INCREDIBLE photos but for allowing me to show them off to every bride that may want something a little different…something bright and elegant….something so colorful that it transforms a room and a venue! Thank you!
It only took a day and we were all hooked! I mean they booked! When I first talked with Kristin and Brian on the phone, we all knew this was going to be an awesome collaboration. It was the day after we spoke for the first time that they booked with me…having never met me. It was truly meant to be as I knew exactly what they wanted and we had just clicked so well. Knowing that I had their trust from the get go, I was able to really be creative and push the envelope with some over the top ideas. When designing an Old Hollywood style wedding you always want more crystals, more pearls, more sparkle! They were not afraid! We kept light on the feather because we really wanted the flowers to be the focus as Kristin LOVED flowers and wanted them everywhere. Love the little twists in design they so happily said YES to…feathers shooting out one side of the centerpieces for a modern flair, crystal curtains, feathers and crystals decorating the chuppah, etc I even made major changes the day of, knowing they were going to LOVE it…keeping the chuppah in place after ceremony and having them sit under it at their reception…uplighting all four chuppah poles (which was not in the plans, but once Rob from Correlation Productions saw the chuppah he was able to get creative and we made that awesome decision together!) It was just an easy, elegant, beautiful wedding and experience working with Kristin and Brian and all of their great vendors! This was truly a wonderful group of vendors that went above and beyond to make their day the best it could be!

One year ago this coming weekend was the BLIZZARD! And while CT was buried in snow and the state had a ban on ALL roads, we were out delivering a wedding!!! It wasn’t just driving two vehicles on unplowed major roads that was crazy (although we did pick up every one of our designers and install team that day) but it was the clearing away of all the snow not only at our house so I could get to the shop, but then at the shop, around the cooler, around my compressor. And it was all painstakingly cleared with shovels…by my hubby and I! We now have a snowblower, thank God! But I can tell you that I was crying…I was so sore and there was so much snow…so much to shovel! I was going to the shop every day every couple of hours to keep an eye on the compressor, to make sure the cooler was still running, clearing off the van and starting it to make sure batteries were still good. It was a nightmare just getting the flowers and the designers to the shop for the wedding prep and design….there was so much more to it than just the driving on banned roads the day of. The roads….they were either not plowed, or filled with stranded cars and people! There was nowhere to walk as the sidewalks were still covered. Loaders were needed to because there was just so much snow! We actually had to wait for a loader to clear the driveway at the New Haven Lawn Club because plows were useless in this mess. Most of the staff at New Haven Lawn Club had slept there for 2 nights and never left, because they probably wouldn’t have made it back for the wedding. Thank God it was a local wedding for us, but some of the vendors had to travel hours to get to the church and venue. We were well prepared which is why we made it happen. I always tell people, if I can deliver in a blizzard then I can do anything and that it should prove my commitment to my clients!!! I should tell you that the bride was happy and such a trooper…90 out of 100 guests showed up and I heard it was a fantastic winter wedding! Below are some non-professional pictures of the wedding and also of our journey through the Blizzard Wedding of 2013!
10 years ago when I first walked into the New Haven Lawn Club I’ve always wanted to design creations that you would have seen in the 1930’s when this building was built. Something that would compliment the art deco design, the crystal chandeliers, the mirrored mantle…..creations that would transform you back to the 30’s! Well, after a long wait, I finally met my kindred spirit, “Lady T ” as we shall call her, and she was able to make my dream come true…and she didn’t even know it!
When we first met she was explaining to me…a florist…that she did NOT want any flowers of any kind…nothing that even resembled a flower. She was amazed that I didn’t run away and that I stood there in anticipation in hopes that she was my 1930’s gal and that I wasn’t dreaming. Needless to say, I was thrilled with all of her ideas and couldn’t wait to enhance them with my visions. This was truly a marriage made in heaven….just so you know I am talking about Lady T and myself! LOL
I had sympathized with her because she had spoken to other florists and they didn’t “get” it…even her own groom was having trouble envisioning…but when the big day arrived, they ALL got it!!! Here are a few words from Lady T after her wedding:
OMG–I swear–our minds are somehow connected and you knew I was just thinking, “I really have to contact Candi to tell her how ABSOLUTELY AMAZING she is and what an ABSOLUTELY AMAZING, INCREDIBLE, INSANE job she did with my wedding!!!!!!!!!” Holy crap, Candi–it was GORGEOUS!!!!! I cried when I saw the ballroom for the first time–my husband thought I was a nut-job but being that he had NO idea what decor you and I were planning, he could NOT believe how incredible the Lawn Club looked. He said he had never seen it look so amazing and he was SOOO impressed and pleased with our “Old Hollywood” ideas. We both couldn’t have been happier and seriously–even a month later–I still get people (people who weren’t even at the freakin wedding!) coming up to me, complimenting on how creative, ingenious and amazing everything was. For most people–it was the first wedding they had ever been to with “no flowers” and THEY LOVED IT! I totally miss seeing how wonderful the Lawn Club was that night and NONE of this would’ve been possible without you, Candi.
And……this is the review she left on Wedding Wire:
I honestly cannot even begin to explain the AMAZING experience I had with Candi’s Floral Creations. The minute I met Candi, I knew we would have this incredible connection and I felt immediately comfortable with how insanely beautiful she was going to make my wedding look and feel. Candi is so unbelievably talented and seriously, no idea (even as crazy as it may seem), is “too outside the box” for Candi! She knew EXACTLY what I was looking for and her ideas were exceptional. If you are looking for someone who is an extremely dedicated worker, who will do just about anything to make your wedding “your dream day,” then Candi is the girl for you. She worked sooooo hard to achieve “my vision” and no matter how crazy I sounded, she would reassure me that we were always on the same page and she knew exactly what I was looking for. I will always remember my wedding day—the moment when I saw my gorgeous bouquet for the first time and my unique bridesmaids’ clutches–I got so excited!!! When my husband and I walked into the ballroom to see “Candi’s Creation….” I immediately started to cry because it was even more beautiful than I could ever even imagine. My husband thought that I was nuts but he too was just floored by what she did and was in awe at what he saw. My vision came true and it was all because of Candi. I honestly do not know how she does it–she is truly an artist and one of the most talented people I have ever met. The decor and everything else Candi was responsible for was seriously my favorite thing about my wedding. Our guests were insanely impressed and to this day (even 2 months later) STILL talk about how incredible the decor was. I am very blessed to have met her when I did and for making the decision to hire her. It was the best thing I did for my wedding.
Enough of the mushiness…let’s get down to business and see the AMAZING images taken by the talented Misty of Misty Enright Photography! I have worked with her numerous times and she is the best out there!!!
The Place Card Table
A thousand Thank You’s for entrusting me to realize your vision.
I had an amazing time planning with you and will totally miss the 3 page emails you sent me!
I am so happy that Heather and Steven’s wedding at New Haven Lawn Club was featured so that more people can see it…..It was the quintessential Sweet Rustic Spring wedding! It had all the makings…yellow, green and white, mason jars, burlap, twine, garden-style bouquets, antique wooden crates(that I have had for years!), tree stumps cake stands,(thanks to Hurricane Irene we had plenty of trees available to make these little buggers!) etc etc
Heather and Stephen were so involved with the planning, I loved it! The more detailed they got…the more creative I got! I think there must have been 10 VERY long emails going back and forth one night……we were SO on the same page…it was RIDIC! So much so, that after the wedding Heather’s sister emailed me to let me know how much I nailed their personality and she couldn’t believe how perfect everything was! That was it!!!! The reason I do this!!!
You can see the full feature and read all about this special couple and their wedding right here on Bliss Celebrations, but let me give you a sneak peek……
One of my favorite themes to design…Rustic Elegance during my favorite time of year…Fall! There are so many natural elements to choose from and I love bringing “the outdoors in” by using leaves, pumpkins, birch, branches, etc etc And it all paired so nicely with the elegance of New Haven Lawn Club!!!
To top it off Diana( and Justin!) were so fun to plan with….she trusted me to take her vision and run with it and I did! Even scouring the entire state for mini white pumpkins well after their season…and found them! Also got to use my awesome dremel and wood burner kits for some great detail and personalization!
I was crying when I received their thank you card……..Love them!
This wedding was so fab that it got featured in a prestigious wedding blog, Rustic Chic Weddings!!! Click the link to see the feature. We were all very excited to find this out as this wedding was made for that site!!!
It couldn’t have happened without the gal behind the lens….Sarah from Afterglow Photos….she knows how to work that camera!!!
Here are some of my favorite images of the day……
Ahhhh! I just adore vintage anything…especially vintage themed weddings! I met Jamie, Sam and their families at the New Haven Lawn Club tasting the year prior. Being a preferred florist of the NHLC I get to design centerpieces for all guests table and decorate the entire club for the tastings.
I remember meeting Jamie so clearly because she was so happy to see her centerpiece and had loved what I created , but there were a few problems…she said that it needed MORE roses and MORE bling! I thought “Uh, a girl after my own vision! We’re going to get along just fine and have a ton of fun planning every detail!”.
The NHLC is the perfect venue and backdrop for a vintage wedding…with the building having been built in the early 30’s and those chandeliers….dripping with crystals!!!!
Jamie and Sam had an underlying theme of “an evening in the park” and all the tables were named after local parks.
My team was very instrumental in designing Jamie and Sam’s floral creations…I have the best team EVER!
Jamie was very happy with the results and my team as well, as you will see below:
“Candi, my flowers were unreal…I am still getting compliments from everyone. Thank you and your wonderful team. I loved the bling and vintage touches.”
I was so pleased when I found out that they hired Cheryl of Cronin Photography to capture their special moments because she is not only so great to work with, but her work is beautiful. Enjoy these samplings and be sure to visit my website very soon for the full feature!
This is one of my favorite weddings, so simple but so elegant! Just like Margy! Most of the planning and creating was done via email, skype and phone, since M and M were in Iraq for most of the months leading up to the wedding.
Enjoy and remember to click on photos for a larger view…..
